How can a menopause insights blood test help you?

This test helps you understand how hormonal changes affect your health throughout menopause.

Because your oestrogen levels reach a new low level in menopause, you have an increased risk of:

Your NHS GP report includes:

  • your risk of certain conditions
  • menopause-specific GP commentary
  • advice for reducing menopause symptoms

Please note, this blood test can not be used to diagnose menopause.

What's included in this blood test?

Cholesterol and apolipoproteins (heart disease risk)

Learn more

Apolipoproteins are the main protein that forms lipoproteins — these transport fat, like cholesterol, around your body. Apolipoproteins are a better predictor of your heart disease risk than LDL cholesterol alone.

Vitamin D

Learn more

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for your health throughout menopause. Lower oestrogen levels can cause your bones to become weaker — increasing your risk of osteoporosis (brittle bones).

Thyroid profile

Learn more

Your thyroid is a gland that controls your body’s processes. Thyroid conditions can increase your risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. An overactive thyroid causes similar symptoms to menopause — like heavy periods, fatigue, and brain fog.

HbA1c (diabetes risk)

Learn more

HbA1c measures your blood sugar control over the last 3 months. When you reach menopause, your body can’t process blood sugar (glucose) as efficiently as it used to, increasing your risk of diabetes.

Advice before doing this test

Arrow

Why can't this test diagnose menopause?

Menopause is a clinical diagnosis.

You've reached menopause if:

- you're over age 45

- have menopausal symptoms

- haven't had a period for 12 months

- you aren't using hormonal contraception

There’s no single blood test to diagnose menopause. This is because your hormones fluctuate throughout perimenopause and menopause. So your results won’t give you an accurate picture or valuable insights.

Arrow

When should you do this blood test?

Great news — you can take this test anytime during the month.

We recommend fasting (not eating) for 8 hours before doing this test. Collect your sample in the morning for the most accurate results.

Arrow

Who's this test suitable for?

This test is suitable if you’re perimenopausal or have reached menopause.

Arrow

What doesn't this test tell you?

This package tests for risk factors associated with menopause but can’t diagnose it. You should see your GP to discuss treatment options if menopause symptoms affect your life.
