How can a fertility insights blood test help you?

This test gives you valuable insights if you’re considering family planning now or in the future. You can also see if your egg count is in the normal range for your age.

It also shows if you have a condition that might affect your fertility — like a thyroid condition. It won't tell you how likely you are to get pregnant or if you're infertile. This test needs to be taken on Day 3 of your cycle

Fertility can be affected by:

With a GP report and tailored advice for your body, you'll have the support to start planning for the future.

What's included in this blood test?

Luteinising hormone

Mid-cycle, your LH levels increase so you can ovulate. If your LH levels are imbalanced, you might have irregular periods and have trouble getting pregnant. High LH levels can indicate menopause or PCOS.

Follicle-stimulating hormone

FSH stimulates your ovaries to produce oestradiol. FSH and oestradiol work together to grow and develop the eggs in your ovaries — so when you ovulate the egg is ready to be fertilised by sperm.

Oestradiol

Oestradiol (E2) is essential for regulating your menstrual cycle and ovulation. It also plays a key role in building up the lining of your uterus — allows for a fertilised egg to become implanted if pregnant.

Testosterone Profile

Testosterone is essential for your sex drive, bone and muscle health, mood, and cognitive function. Your levels gradually drop as you age. If your levels are out of range you might feel tired, have a low sex drive, and have low mood.
This affects:
Energy
Fitness
Long Term Health
Mood
Sleep
Weight

Thyroid Hormone Profile

An underactive thyroid can affect your menstrual cycle and ovulation. If you have a thyroid condition, it can increase your risk of pregnancy complications — like a miscarriage. But with treatment, these issues can be reversed.
This affects:
Energy
Long Term Health
Mood
Weight

AMH

AMH is a hormone released by cells in your developing egg sacs (ovarian follicles). Testing your AMH levels can help determine the number of eggs you have left — your ovarian reserve.

Prolactin

Prolactin is a hormone made by the pituitary gland. It helps stimulate milk production during breastfeeding and helps to regulate your menstrual cycle. High levels can prevent ovulation.

When should you do this test?

The best time to do this test is on day 3 of your cycle (day 1 is your first day of bleeding) — this is when your results can be accurately interpreted.

If you have irregular periods

We recommend waiting until you have a period to get the most useful insights from this test.

If you have irregular periods combined with symptoms like acne, excess body hair (hirsutism), or weight gain, our PCOS blood test might give you better insights.

If you have no periods
You can do this test anytime, but it might be harder for our doctors to interpret your results.
