What's included in this blood test?

Oestradiol (oestrogen)

Oestradiol (E2) is a type of oestrogen and is the main female sex hormone. If your E2 levels are too high or low it can cause irregular periods, hot flashes, fatigue, headaches, sleep problems, anxiety, depression, and a low sex drive.

Luteinising hormone (LH)

Mid-cycle, your LH levels increase so you can ovulate. If your LH levels are imbalanced, you might have irregular periods and have trouble getting pregnant. High LH levels can indicate menopause or PCOS.

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)

FSH plays a key role in egg production and ovulation. Your FSH levels naturally increase as you age — high levels can be a sign of menopause. If your FSH levels are too high or low you might have trouble getting pregnant.

Testosterone

Testosterone is essential for your sex drive, bone and muscle health, mood, and cognitive function. Your levels gradually drop as you age. If your levels are out of range you might feel tired, have a low sex drive, and have low mood.

When should you do this test?

The best time to do this test is on day 3 of your cycle (day 1 is your first day of bleeding) — this is when your results can be accurately interpreted.

If you have irregular periods

We recommend waiting until you have a period to get the most useful insights from this test.

If you have irregular periods combined with symptoms like acne, excess body hair (hirsutism), or weight gain, our PCOS blood test might give you better insights.

If you have no periods
You can do this test anytime, but it might be harder for our doctors to interpret your results.
