Is it for me?

Vitamin B12, together with Folic acid and Iron are essential vitamins needed to form red blood cells. When levels of Vitamin B12 are low the body struggles to make red blood cells and so can cause anaemia.

Anaemia means that less oxygen is transported around the body and so an anaemic person can feel unwell. The most common symptoms are:

  • Tiredness
  • Lack of energy
  • Muscle weakness
  • Mood changes
  • Memory problems

We know that your body is complicated and results can be confusing so we'll explain exactly what your results mean in your personalised report.

Active B12 (Holotranscobalamin)

Vitamin B12, also called cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that has a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and the formation of red blood cells. Active B12 (Holotranscobalamin) represents only about 10-30% of total B12 found in the blood and is the only useful form that cells can use. It is therefore a better measurement than total B12 alone.
