Understand more about your fitness

Nutrients and certain hormones play a big role in how you perform and recover from exercise. They can also affect your sleep — which is one of the most important things for helping your muscles repair themselves.

What can this test tell you?

This finger-prick blood test measures a range of factors that can affect your performance, recovery, and sleep.

What's included in this test?

Advanced iron profile

Your body uses iron to make haemoglobin — a part of red blood cells that carry oxygen around your body. If you don't get enough iron you might develop iron deficiency anaemia, which can affect your fitness performance. Tiredness, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations are signs you might be deficient.

A full iron profile measures 5 iron markers: ferritin, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), transferrin saturation (FESA), total iron and unsaturated iron-binding capacity (UIBC).

Active vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is essential for a healthy brain and nervous system. It also works closely with folate to make red blood cells — these carry oxygen around your body. If you don't get enough vitamin B12, it can impact your endurance and performance.

Folate plays an essential role in producing red blood cells — these carry oxygen around your body. If your folate levels are low, you might feel tired and less motivated. You might also experience pins and needles, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and muscle weakness.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium which is important for strong bones. Vitamin D deficiency is linked to tiredness, bone and muscle pain, low mood, as well as getting ill more often than usual.

Note: If you have sarcoidosis (an inflammatory disease) or a condition that affects your parathyroid glands (these regulate calcium in your body), it can make it difficult to interpret your vitamin D results. So in this case, it's best to work with your doctor and get specialist input.

Omega-3 and omega-6

A diet rich in omega-3s is linked to improved bone and joint health, as well as better sleep. Getting the correct balance of omega-3s and omega-6s in your body is important. This helps protect against chronic inflammation — which can affect how well you recover from exercise.

Testosterone is a hormone that's essential for women and women. It's important for muscle mass and strength, bone health, and red blood cell production (these transport oxygen around your body).
